We About Us:

Founded in 1993, Ursatec have been active in development and marketing of primary packaging items for pharmaceutical, cosmetical, and further applications. Our main products are packaging systems guarding non-preserved preparations against contamination.

We are holders and beneficiaries of several patents granted in Germany, Europe and USA.

Our sales program:

dosing devices pumps/spray or pumps/dispensers
for nasal or general applications
complete dosing systems, including pumps and containers
Standard- or AIRLESS-systems
dosing systems plus contract manufacturing
supply of dosage system and mediation of an adequate contract manufacturer
special production and development on contract basis,
primarily on application systems guarding against contamination
for unpreserved preparations with an emphasis on innovative applications
The demand for our devices shows a constant trend upward. We started only 1994, with a nasal application of which we sold half a million units as first. For 1997, we have every reason to believe to reach 5 million units.

Market introductions until now have been:

Ursapharm     Allergocrom COMOD   Aug 1994
Zyma, Munich Rhinomer                       Sept 1994
Ursapharm     Xylo-COMOD                  Oct 1995
ct Chemische Cromo pur                      Jan 1996
Tempelhof
Simicur            Luffa D4                           Mar 1996
Merck,              Nasivin sanft                    Sept 1996
Darmstadt

more to follow, with a rising number in other fields of usage, e.g. cosmetics

Products

In Germany, nasal preparations against flue are not covered by the Health Security scheme. The total market value for nasal applications amounted to DEM 430 million in 1995!

Recent tests performed by "ÖKO TEST" (this is a German Consumer Report Magazine) gave buying recommandations for two non-preserved preparations only, one of them COMOD's Rhinomer by Zyma.

Further six preparations are recommended, too, under some restrictions for the one or the other reason resp. ingredient, COMOD's Xylo-Comod by Ursapharm and Nasivin sanft by Merck, Darmstadt among them.

Short to a fifty other preparations have been downrated to "less recommandable" or even "not recommandable".

You want more details on said test? Well, please let us have your request by eMail, we shall proudly provide the information to you.

Proof of Function

Exhaustive tests with the Institut für Medizinische Mikrobiologie und Immunologie, Pharmazeutische Mikrobiologie, of Bonn University, show that our various systems are very well suited to safeguard a non-preserved preparation.

Reasons for non-Preserved Preparations

Any conventional spray preparation calls for preservatives to maintain its usability during shelf life and application. Since all preservatives are toxic substances, a potential risk for the patient is inherent.
Irritations and impaired tolerance as well as allergic reactions and cytotoxic effects may occur.

Such allergic side-effects are often masked by the true disease which is treated. Allergic reactions are to be reported from all fields of application, sometimes irreversibly .

These side effects that are well-known but seemingly unavoidable lead to start exploiting all technical feasabilities and eventually, to the COMOD system for non-preserved preparations, for nasal and cosmetical purposes and further applications.

Principles of Preservative-free Dosage Systems

In general, unpreserved dosage systems consist of an airless-pump with a microbiologically tightly fitting valve and a special storage container allowing for volume adjustment. Used-up preparation from the container can be compensated for e.g. by a sliding piston system or an internal flexible bag respectively differential pressure.

There exist a number of possible designs to solve the task to safeguard any contents against the risks of contamination and thus germ growth.
This sketch shows our standard COMOD package.

The Success of COMOD

Proof of Function

Exhaustive tests with the Institut für Medizinische Mikrobiologie und Immunologie, Pharmazeutische Mikrobiologie, of Bonn University, show that our various systems are very well suited to safeguard a non-preserved preparation.

Our success took off in 1994, with a nasal application of commod system of which we sold half a million units as first. For 1997, we have every reason to believe to reach 5 million units. By now, six non-preserved preparations have been successfully launched into the German market, others to follow.

The demand for our devices shows a constant trend upward.

The trend to use non-preserved preparations has become rather dominant within these few years.

Your Chance to Catch the Trend

More and more apparent allergic side-effects caused by preservatives oblige manufacturers to avoid such substances in the future.

We are prepared to assist you in your task to market a non-preserved version of your application(s),e.g. by having it manufactured under contract. Then you may launch it without disrupting your routine operations.
You can have your regular version, with preservatives, still in the market until further evaluation.

Please lean on us for our complex experience and routine we have achieved over the years, which enable us to cooperate with you for a successful launch of your non-preserved product!
